Sibanye-Stillwater is a South African gold and platinum group producer with mines in South Africa and the USA. The company is the world's largest primary producer of platinum and rhodium, the second largest primary producer of palladium and a top-ranked gold producer, ranking third in the world on a gold equivalent basis, as well as a major producer of other platinum group metals and related minerals such as chromium. In addition, Sibanye-Stillwater is also the world's leading recycler and processor of spent PGM catalyst material and, through its initial transactions, is well on its way to achieving another downstream position in the battery metals value chain.
Sibanye-Stillwater achieved another record performance in the six months ended June 30, 2021 (H1 2021). First-half PGM production in South Africa increased 41% to nearly 930,000 ounces, while in the U.S. one was flat year-over-year at nearly 300,000 ounces. Gold production from South African mines reached nearly 520,000 ounces, up 29%. The improved operating performance, combined with significantly higher commodity prices, resulted in a 160% increase in net income to $1.74 billion in the first half of 2021 from $584 million a year earlier.
